Why this site?

Background:

Many voters would like to know how a potential candidate would vote (if elected), in contrast to the distracting name calling that predominates a presidential election. Aggregating the candidates and their views by topic, allows us to make an informed decision as opposed to reading multiple ‘daily news dishes’ that bounce around between days and weeks.

I just figured that as an American voter, a fairly non-partisan comparison site might be useful for folks on the internet.  I really did try to be non-partisan about this, although unfortunately some linked in sites may bring in other information. To err is human, although once again, I’ve tried to be fair to the candidates to get the essence of what they think by their quotes or votes.
What made it to the table:

·         Is it true/has been vetted -
Vetting - Sarah Palin has been wrongly accused of banning books from her library and firing a librarian. It was more rhetorical than actual as the librarian was not fired, thereby making inclusion in this table inappropriate.   Had she fired the librarian AND was under investigation, then it would have made the table.
Truth - Obama and Palin have been both been smeared without proof that they believe in the extreme views of their pastors.

·         Is it just part of campaigning - While campaigning against each other, Biden said that Obama wasn’t sufficiently experienced and McCain said that a governor or mayor would not know enough to sufficiently handle national security.
Both are eating their words now and it's chalked up to campaigning.

·         Is it relevant

·         Is it concise - There are numerous sites that mention the same info, but when possible just one was used for sake of efficiency.

·         Is it too partisan – no point extolling virtues, getting overly-gushy during the discussion if it will deride the intent.  When possible I tried to go to independent sources, although as mentioned sometimes being concise or truthful won out.

·         Knowing that the process ain’t perfect – I’m sure the name of the bill/law doesn’t include everything contained therein.  The bill/law may also be a highly touted, yet watered down version of what all the sides may have wished.  Still it’s assumed that when a candidate voted Yes or No that it meant something.

This site may be infrequently updated before the general election and your are welcome to return as often as you like. Please refer this site to others if you feel it’s useful. There probably won't be many changes here up until the election as the campaigning is just solidifying positions stated in the table, or spinning it so that nominees may attain the nation’s highest political office.

In the end, elected candidates will make very major future decisions affecting our lives based upon their voting history and quotes, which is a lot more relevant than how they look (i.e. their gender, age, skin tint or home state).

Have fun and please vote wisely!!!
